Amrutha is currently a DMA student at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro studying under Dr. Erika Boysen. While working towards her doctorate, Amrutha is also a freelance musician and teacher in the area, and maintains a virtual studio of students across the nation. She received her Master's degree in Flute Performance from the University of Texas at Austin in 2023 studying under Marianne Gedigian, and a Bachelor's degree in flute performance from Baylor University in 2021 studying under Dr. Charlotte Daniel.
As a performer, Amrutha currently plays with the UNCG Wind Ensemble, but has performed with the UT Wind Ensemble, UT Symphony Orchestra, Butler Opera Center and New music ensemble. While being a freelance musician in the Austin area, and she performed at venues and churches, as well as with the Central Texas Philharmonic. She has also been a part of the Baylor University Wind Ensemble and performed with them during their TMEA Centennial Performance in 2020 and at the 2018 CBDNA conference with the Baylor University Symphonic band.
Amrutha has performed in many different competitions and recitals. In 2019, she won the Texas Flute Society Masterclass competition to perform for Kara Kirkendoll-Welch, and was also invited to perform at the Texas Flute Symposium for Dr. Conor Nelson. Amrutha was also a competitor in the Baylor University Concerto competition, and the Austin Flute Society's Young Artist's competition in 2020. In 2023, Amrutha performed a recital at the Austin Flute Festival titled Nirmana, a recital focused on sharing the music of Indian and Indian-American composers.
Between the years of 2018-2021, Amrutha worked with Homeless Outreach in Waco ISD to help students receive tutoring in order to graduate. After learning so much and bonding with the students, Amrutha realized that music isn't something that should be only for higher class and wealthier areas, but for everyone. Currently, Amrutha volunteers as Events Coordinator at Through the Staff, a 501(c)3 Nonprofit that provides accessible music education for students virtually.
